This is a revision of the original revision I made of the Fighter Class a week or so ago. I’ll leave the original as it is for posterity, should anyone want to go take a look.
If you missed the Revised 4E Wizard Class, then you might want to go take a look.
The next revision will probably be the Rogue (and after that the Cleric), however, before the Revised 4E Rogue Class I would like to get the Vampire Bestiary on sale. So it may be a week or so before I get the Rogue finished and uploaded.
Changes
So a number of things have changed in this version.
- Based on the feedback quite a few of the martial maneouvers have had their modifier changed.
- I have added combos to the mix.
- I split the Fighter up into different builds.
- I added some new stances and maneouvers
- Implemented all conditions as lasting until the end of next turn (with certain exceptions like knocked prone, ongoing damage and unconsciousness).
- Added some wuxia style ‘extraordinary attacks’ for the epic tier.
- I changed some of the table formatting to look a bit neater.
Anyway, here is the Revised 4E Fighter v2.0, Let me know what you think.

UK:
Thank you as always for sharing.
Builds: I don’t know that I would use the different builds. I prefer one freeform list. I want any “fighter” to say I want to do X+damage on this attack and I can just say OK subtract Y damage. I don’t want to have to figure out whether a manuever is modified by a particulat build.
Tiers: I think it is a good idea to keep some maneuvers separate. Some are simple more “fantastic” adn really should be separate.
Weapon Types: I do think having certian maneuvers available to certain weapons is a good idea mentioned before. I makes the weapons more unique and allows a fighter to customize by weapon choice – which makes sense to me. Might need to have proficiency in a weapon to gain the weapon based maneuvers.
Based on the above I would probably make a very simple and small set of basic/general stances and maneuvers. These would then be added to based on weapon type, and/or maybe weapon fighting styles.
Anyway, I really like the work you are doing here – keep it up please! I still want to see the Rouge and Cleric if you get time. That said, you should probably focus on getting the Vampire Bestiary out first.

Hi Dave,
can’t say its been a nightmare week, since I had a few social engagements (Wednesday thru to Saturday) I really enjoyed, but the past 7 days have been awkward for getting anything done. I basically freed up some time on Sunday night to get the Revised Fighter finished thinking I’d have the rest of the week to work on the Vampire Bestiary and then ridiculously I get some annoying computer virus warning on Monday morning. Luckily I got that fixed a few hours ago and the anti-virus software had it quarantined anyway – most of my time was just double checking stuff.
Re: Builds. The idea behind the builds was to split up the powers more. Plus it makes sense that stunning with a greathammer would be easier than with a dagger.
Re: Weapon Types. I contemplated the idea of certain weapon types having certain powers but it would just have really complicated what is a fairly elegant system and I wasn’t sure the rewards would be worth it. I was also pondering whether to have certain stances based on Armour Types, but again it just didn’t seem worth it.
Re: Up Next. Yes, definately the Vampire Bestiary will take priority for the next 1-2 weeks but I will tinker away with the Rogue (and one or two other web updates) when I get a free hour or two here and there.

Hey there designer,
I was on a short holiday at the start of February and when I came back I had the worst bout of flu I can remember. Actually still not fully over it two weeks later. So thats the reason for the stall in updates.
Saying that, the next update will be the announcement/release of the Vampire Bestiary: Mountain of the Cannibal God, so I am working towards getting that finished. Then I think I have a devil themed update and after that I’ll post up the Revised 4E Rogue Class. I should get all that done sometime in March.

First, great work – I like the concept. This reminds me (somewhat) of how magic is handled in the True20 system in terms of being fast and loose. I have a suggestion for how to build clerics in this system. This requires fleshing out, but I thought I’d throw out the concept:
Works basically like the fighter and wizard builds
Step 1: choose a power (at-will, encounter, or daily)
Step 2: choose a delivery technique: weapon (Str-based melee attack vs AC), symbol (Wis-based ranged attack vs will, defaults to a ray, but can be upgraded to ranged burst or close blast), or aura (automatic effect, based on Wis, centered on cleric and automatically moves with him, sustain minor, only one aura at a time)
Step 3: add effects. Damage type for all effects defaults to radiant, but other energy types could be added, based on the spheres of influence of the cleric’s deity or deities.
Added effects could be harmful to the target or helpful to nearby allies, in keeping with the cleric’s traditional role of protecting and healing. Total number of additional effects could be limited, as discussed above.
Effects a cleric has access to could be determined based on his god(s) spheres of influence. (War, love, sun, fire, death, life, earth, seas, etc.)
Example effects:
Resounding (-2 [W]) (weapon delivery only) – target is dazed and takes an additional 1/2 [W] damage at the start of its next turn. [Granted by war and earth spheres.]
Inspiring (-1 [W]) – attack does damage to target as normal, but gains “Effect: a number of allies equal to your Chr mod within close burst 10 may each spend a healing surge”. [Granted by sun and life spheres.]
Shielding (-1 [W]) – attack does damage to target as normal, but gains “Effect: one ally within close burst 10 gains a bonus equal to your Chr mod to the defense of your choice until the start of your next turn.” [Granted by sun and protection spheres.]
Fateful (-3 [W]) – if this attack hits, and a critical hit would be enough to kill the target, it dies. Otherwise, roll damage as normal. [Granted by death sphere.]
Rebuking (-2 [W]) – target flees from you at its maximum speed, avoiding dangerous terrain, enemies, and other perceived hazards (save ends). [Granted by war and terror spheres.]
Turning (-3 [W]) – any hit against undead is an automatic critical hit. [Granted by sun and life spheres.]
Soothing (-1 [W]) – on a hit, delays its initiative count until next round, effectively loosing a turn. [Granted by love and nature spheres.]
Enthralling (-3 [W]) – on a hit, target is dominated until the start of the cleric’s next turn.
And so forth, you get the idea. Additional spheres might open up additional effects and energy types. Fire sphere could allow the cleric to change the damage type to fire, and possibly inflict ongoing damage. Air sphere could do the same for lightning and thunder types. Water could grant the option of doing “splash” damage on any energy attack, like 1/2 [W] to each adjacent enemy and 1/2 [W] to primary target on a miss. By keeping most attacks untyped (i.e., weapon damage) or radiant, with only a few exceptions, this would prevent the cleric from stepping on the toes of the wizard. I think this would also make individual clerics more individual. A priest of three gods with access to Sun, Life, Water, Air, and Nature would play very differently than a zealot of Fire, War, and Death.
Cleric builds:
Zealot: choose one god only (each has three spheres) and access only those spheres. Benefit: damage dice increase by one size on all attacks.
Priest: choose a pantheon of three compatible gods and access all spheres (limit five total). This is the default build. Damage is [W] for melee attacks, d8s for symbol and d6s for auras.
Mystic: Instead of worshiping any particular god or gods, you serve a general purpose or ethic. Access all spheres. Damage is [W] for melee attacks, d6s for symbol and d4s for auras.
Finally, each sphere could grant access to one additional effect at paragon and one additiona effect at epic tiers.
Hope this helps stir the juices.

Howdy JH,
before I address your post I’m just going to mention I hope to have an update to this website in a few days time (I honestly don’t know how I let things go so long). Also I’m going to sign the GSL agreement (I know Alzrius, I know – but I don’t see another solution), so the Vampire Bestiary will be on sale as soon as that goes through…3-4 weeks from now.
Re: Revised 4E Clerics.
I already had the Cleric (and Rogue) half finished. Just been preoccupied with other things. Sorry. The Cleric differs from the Wizard in that: Negative effects won’t affect allies; ALL the delivery methods are different; allowed energy types would indeed be based on ALIGNMENT AND deity worshipped.
So for instance good aligned clerics automatically get the Radiant energy type (among others) at d6. But for a cleric of a sun god that might be d10 instead (or d8…depending on Domains).
Re: Some of your listed effects:
Powers which grant a bonus based on Ability Scores are broken (at high levels).
Re: Multi-portfolio deities:
I’d probably keep “Domains to a maximum of four”. The fewer the domains, the more powerful the energy type (d4 for four domains, d10 for one domain possibly). So a cleric of Pelor might be doing d10’s for radiant attacks, while a cleric of Thor would be doing d8’s with Thunder AND Lightning.
Re: Your Cleric Builds:
I like this idea. I was thinking that ‘generic’ good clerics would have the radiant energy type while evil ones would have the necrotic energy type as standard. Whereas ‘Priests’ would be more specific.
Thanks very much for the feedback. I WILL get around to posting the Revised Rogue and Cleric – eventually. Next update will be a brief one, but within a few weeks I’ll have the Vampire Bestiary on sale and then I can get back to updating here more often.

Hey dyasdesigns,
Yes I should have finished those back in the day – I think the 8 core classes would have made for a good book done in this format.
Such is life though. I really liked 4th Edition and I think they jettisoned it too soon. I keep meaning to go back and finish the Vampire Bestiary ( Volumes 2 & 3 ) but I keep putting it off. Working on a comic book right now (I’m writing it) for release early next year and that takes up most of my free time outside of work and girlfriend.
